How to read precision resistors. Always read resistors from left to right. To determine the value of a given resistor look for the gold or silver tolerance band and rotate the resistor as in the photo on the left. Precision resistors which have more precise values than standard resistors have five color bands.

Tolerance band on the right hand end of the colors refer to the tolerance chart below for exact values. By using the color code chart one finds that green stands for 5 and blue for 6. Or there are much resistor calculators that you can use.

If the multiplier band is gold or silver then the decimal point is moved to the left one or two places divided by 10 or 100. If the 3rd band would be red instead of brown the multiplier would be 10 2 100 instead of 10 and the resistor value would be 56 x 100 5600 ohms 56 k ohms. All resistors come with a tolerance value which is given as a percentage.

Four of the bands tell you the nominal value. In the example on the left these bands are green blue red and gold. You can count on the actual resistance of a precision resistor being really close to its nominal value.

Its for the lazi. The tolerance value tells us how close to the nominal value a resistance can vary. A precision resistor is a resistor that has a very low tolerance value so it is very precise closely near its nominal value.

Determine the decoded. Resistors never start with a metallic band on the left. The value of the resistor is marked on the body using colors.

More online conversion calculators at digi key. Every color is different number and you can remember these numbers or you can just use the table on next step. Position the resistor with this band on the right side and again read your resistor from left to right.

Determine the tolerance of the resistor. See this and over. How to read color codes from resistors.

Read the color sequence that must be decoded to determine resistance. Resistors are color coded with markings or bands that allow you to quickly identify resistance values and tolerance. How to read axial lead resistors steps position the resistor with the gold or silver color band to the right.

These resistors have two bands for the resistance value one multiplier and one tolerance band. Look at the first color band and determine its color. Determine the coded number for the resistive value.

The resistor color code calculator decodes and identifies a value and tolerance of 5 band wire wound resistors. The fifth band tells you the tolerance. How to read the code.
